Send files with a question
Attach pictures, PDFs or text files to a question so AI Assistant can read them.
You can attach files to a question, such as a photo of a receipt or a PDF. AI Assistant reads them with your question.
Who can do this
Anyone signed in to a workspace. Files cannot be attached in the demo.
Steps
- Click the + button at the left of the question box (Attach files).
- Pick one or more files. The files show above the box.
- To take one off, click the X beside its name.
- Type your question, or send the files on their own, and press Enter.
You can attach:
- pictures (PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP);
- PDFs;
- text files (.txt, .csv, .md).
Up to 4 files can go with one question. The files stay in the chat. When you open the chat again later, you still see them, and AI Assistant can still read them. Deleting the chat deletes its files too.
Common problems
- "Only pictures, PDFs and text files (.txt, .csv, .md) can be attached." One of the files you picked is another type. It was left out.
- "Up to 4 files can go with one question." Only the first 4 were added.
- "That is too much to attach in one chat (about 7 MB in total). Try a smaller file, or start a new chat." Files you sent earlier in the chat count too, because they travel with every question. Start a new chat for more files.
- "That question was not sent. A free question can carry one small file (up to 2 MB). Add your OpenRouter key to attach more." Without an OpenRouter key, a question can carry one file of up to 2 MB. No free question was used.
- "That question was not sent. One of the attached files cannot be read here." onhr checks what each file really is, not just its name. Attach a PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP picture, a PDF, or a text file.
- "That question was not sent. Too many files are attached to this conversation." or "The attached files are too large together." Remove some, or start a new chat.
